Important Hungarian words from today:

Köszönöm sépen – thank you very much (for hospitaliy and food and not minding our feeble attempts at speaking your language)

Megyűnk – we are leaving (but I will be back in September.  “And it will be a good year,” says Gabi, a second-year student.)

Nagyon finom – very delicious (in response to the wonderful final meal we teachers were given.  Cabbage and carrots and dill make a wonderful salad, by the way.)

Viszlat! – Goodbye (to students, to fellow teachers)

Tonight, we’re in Budapest, which feels curiously like a homecoming.  I wish I had more time to visit old haunts … and I will, later this summer.

For now, we’re off to spend a week with the gypsies.

About Cassidhe Hart

My favorite times of the year: when the weather is first cold enough to put socks on and when the weather is first warm enough to take my socks off.
